I have years of experience as an editor of books—as acquisitions editor, developmental editor, and copyeditor. I have worked as a freelance editor. I was senior acquisitions editor at Northwestern University Press, where as I acquired and developed around thirty books each year in philosophy and literary studies. And I worked in the manuscript editing department and at the University of Chicago Press, where I was responsible for copyediting book manuscripts and helping shepherd books through the publication process.
Before my work in publishing, I earned a PhD in philosophy at the University of Leuven in Belgium.
Throughout my career in publishing, I've been committed to demystifying the academic publishing process. I served as a member of the Association of University Presses Faculty Outreach Committee and helped develop and launch AskUP, a dynamic resource aimed to shed light on every stage of the academic publishing process. I've given presentations about the publishing process at the American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA), the German Studies Association (GSA), the Modern Language Association (MLA), the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP), UCLA, the City University of New York (CUNY), Harvard University, Loyola University Chicago, Northwestern University, the University of Toronto, and more. And I have taught courses on the peer-review process for the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP).
